The primary responsibilities of the Accommodations Specialist are to provide accommodations for students with disabilities and promote accessibility in courses and throughout campus. Conducts initial interviews with students and develops individualized accommodation plans including matters related to assistive technology. Helps ensure that students’ access and accommodation needs are addressed in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner. Works collaboratively within the College community to provide leadership for a comprehensive array of support services designed to ensure meaningful access and to promote retention for students with and without disabilities. Exercises strong leadership, supervisory, and technical skills that create an appropriate learning environment for students. Duties may occasionally be performed remotely.



Required Qualifications

Bachelors’ degree in social work, human services, education, counseling, rehabilitation, or a related field. At least three years of successful experience, preferably in case management or in a community college disabilities service environment. An understanding of the comprehensive community college philosophy and knowledge of the current concepts, principles, and practices needed to successfully integrate accommodations into a robust academic program. Experience or demonstrated ability adapting to the challenging demands of disability services. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and other members of the community. Ability to exercise independent judgement and make appropriate and compliant decisions. High level of computer literacy and ability to use technology to enhance student success.
