Scovill Zoo is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team for the summer. The Summer Camp Counselors will lead a variety of educational summer camp programs. The successful candidate for this position will ensure that all programming presented is engaging, innovative and effective, as determined by evaluation and in direct support of the mission of Scovill Zoo.
The daily duties of the position are as follows:
• Deliver educational content about nature, wildlife, and conservation through formal classroom discussion and on grounds activities
• Leading group games
• Helping participants complete crafts and projects
• Supervise snack time
• Leading participants through the Zoo and Behind the Scenes area
• Maintain proper protocol and procedures required for all Zoo interactions with animals, visitors, and program participants
This position is considered an hourly, seasonal position. Camp will run mid-May through the first week in August.
Requirements: Previous camp, education and/or science background strongly preferred and First Aid and CPR certification. Must have the ability to access all areas of the facility and negotiate the zoo work environment, carry out animal related lesson plans, lead theme related games and crafts and keep records.
